I’m dying

It’s been a few years now since I keep saying I will be dying soon enough as as I have reached my mid age; I plan to hold on to that promise, meaning to get to 90. Years, not kilos.

When looking back to the things I have accomplished so far, I am appalled of how quickly time goes by. One of these days I will be an octogenarian – meaning an octopus whisperer or something like this.

Even if you’ve set yourself some very challenging objectives as New Year resolutions, I suggest you also try the obituary test. This is the test where you are supposed to write down all your achievements so far and how you think you’ll be remembered by the ones left behind.

It’s morbid, I know, but can also be considered a cold shower (a freezing cold one), even though you may not feel that such misfortune can occur to you; to put it gently, sooner or later it will happen to all of us – that’s life.

I presume that by the end of your life you won’t regret:

  • Not having more meetings;
  • Not working up late while you were expected at home or someplace else;
  • Taking too many days off;
  • Not working enough while at home or on holiday;
  • Not cursing more while in traffic;
  • Not having more arguments with your colleagues;
  • Not putting up with bad managers;
  • Removing some toxic people from your life;
  • Not lingering more in a relationship just because it’s something you’re supposed to do;
  • Serving as a role model to other people;
  • Spending too much time with your children, doing everything you can for them.

I am not saying to shove somewhere those smart objectives, more like kindly ask to look back on what you’ve done so far and consider if you feel content about it. I am not telling you it’s either good or bad, you should know better. I am merely emphasizing that you cannot influence the past (go figure!).

As you are about to be dying anyway, change something about you now and you may just avoid ending up with a blank page as obituary.

Good luck succeeding. In this lifetime, while alive!
