Can You Say No?

It may seem very obvious, but each time you say no to others, you say yes to yourself. This is very helpful when it comes to a better self management. I am not saying that if your boss asks for something you should say no,  ‘cause you read it here. I am just saying that there are cases when you can even do that.

If your manager tells you to stay up late for work because it’s a super important project, but this occurs daily and you are already a zombie – sooner or a lot sooner you should learn to say no even when it means changing the job. This is the main reason why truck drivers have mandatory rest breaks. It’s crystal clear: each time you say no to others, you say yes to yourself. Keep it in mind, it’s for your own good.

Once upon a time, the wife was playing with the kid in the other room and softly whispers:

– You are so lucky, you slept, ate, played, pooped and now you are sleeping again…

– I have every right, it’s Saturday! the husband yells from the bathroom.

I am not saying that if the boss (you can replace with wife/partner) comes and asks for something, you should say no. Such behavior in your personal life may seriously harm you.

“Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.” Lao Tzu

I am especially referring to work environment where quite a lot of people tend to come and drop stuff in your lap. They are aware you are fully capable to get things done; moreover, you sometimes check by every desk and ask for extra work – just for the fun of itt. You end up eventually with a lot of things to do daily; you don’t even have time to use the potty since you are taking care of everyone’s business. In case you don’t manage to get things done, it’s even more obvious you don’t know what’s in your best interest.

Most of the times we tell ourselves that we are NOT good enough at something – thus stopping ourselves from benefiting from many opportunities.

First, you should have a serious talk with yourself and start saying no, even if you are programmed to be very nice and compassionate. Saying no doesn’t make you a bad person, just be careful how you deliver the refusal.

Be careful not to exaggerate. Before saying NO to every request, consider if by declining you endanger your job or promotion opportunities.

Don’t say no to succeeding!
